December 13 – Action. When it comes to aspirations, it’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. What’s your next step? (Author: Scott Belsky)
I like this statement from this prompt: “When it comes to aspirations, it’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.”
Without adequate motivation to succeed and ability to follow-through, great ideas may never be anything more than a really cool something in your head.
I struggle with the next step part. Not because I don’t have the motivation necessarily, but I’m in a place in my life where I don’t want to add to my load. If I do, I know I’ll slowly whittle down the time I have to spend with my family and any down time I want to have will be non-existent.
At the same time, I do have aspirations. I’m eager to get back to school, if for no other reason than I enjoy learning and I’ve finally figured out what I’m interested in. Until that happened, my schooling wasn’t as high a priority.
I have a whole list of hobbies I’d like to get better at.
So, my next steps are:
- Finish a crocheted scarf I started making for my son, Brandon, last winter - by the end of the Christmas holidays this year. When that’s done, I want to follow a pattern start to finish “by the book”. Brandon’s scarf is getting made up as I go along.
- Get my 365 back on track. I’ve been taking practice shots, but nothing I’ve wanted to publish as of yet since I said I was going to start up again. My Christmas present this year should help me along with this step. :-)
- Fortunately, my new job may provide opportunities for me to work on my web/graphic design skills, but I think I’m going to devote a couple of hours every couple of weeks to going through books I have to gain some additional knowledge and skills in these areas.
- In the new year, I’ll organize a cooking class activity with my fellow Losing It teammates so we can all benefit from learning some new techniques.
I think that’s quite a bit of action to start 2011 off with. What’s your next step in 2011?
